Don’t let life pass you by; also, do not believe that your best opportunities are behind you. We are where we are, and there is nothing we can do to change what has brought us here; but we can make adjustments right now, if where we are is not where we want to be, or think we should be.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Everyday, we catch glimpses into the lives of others. Careers, hobbies, talents, parenting style, and the like; we find comparisons to how we are choosing to live our lives. The quote above keeps me in check with the reminder that we can learn, adapt, and add aspects to our life that we see and admire in others; we must still stay rooted and dig equally as hard into understanding who we are at our core.
The path to mastery is laid by having a learner’s mindset. The more we are willing to be open to being taught by those around us, the more likely we are to obtain or retain this balance of inspiration leading to deeper growth, and inspiration leading to change in our lives. This is ever the endeavor in my life: to move forward and to be always becoming more of who I need to be, balanced with a contentment for that in life that is and that needs to remain. These are ideas that align with pursuing and understanding our purpose.
We want happiness, we want meaning, and we want to know that we are having a positive impact on the lives and world around us.
“Many persons have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.” – Helen Keller
I am constantly chasing happiness. Whenever it seems to evade me, it means that it’s time to step back, open up my perspective, embrace that which is near me and take a moment to be grateful for all that this life is. The other practice that his important for me in these times is to ask myself: “Who do I want to be?”
The answer to this question is powerful, because it requires a response of action. We must actually do something and work towards becoming. So today let us take action to be the person we want to be; today let us take action to be who we need to be.
